In this part of our beautiful country, the nature has given so much beauty, that it seems the mighty hand of our creator has in its enthusiasm scattered here all its beauty and treasure, dispersed in the abundances of contrasts. Here we come across exceptional richness of natural phenomena contained in luxuriant variety of vegetation and animal world.
Flora of Turopolje counts over 450 species of which we would stress the most frequent ones: common oak, sessile oak, hornbeam, sallow, hazel tree, elder, poplar, reed mace bulrush, water lily and others. For butterfly fauna about 400 species have been discovered among which the most beautiful are: peacock butterfly, swallowtail, scarce swallowtail, southern festoon, and others. The waters of this region, the Odra with its tributaries Lomnica, Buna and Lekenik are the habitat for 22 species of fish from 7 families, among which some indigenous species can be found; like roach, bream, bleak, pike, chub, perch, and others. In the flood forests of Turopolje and next to their ridges, as well as on flood fields and in water canals and puddles we could find 17 species of amphibians among which we should mention fire salamander, yellow and red fire bellied toad, even four species of water newts and others. The fauna of reptiles is somewhat poor; it counts just some ten species. On the other hand, Turopolje region is a paradise for birds. It is a home for 220 bird species: black woodpecker, lesser spotted eagle, black stork, lark, woodpecker and others. There are 40 mammal species in Turopolje region: deer, doe, squirrel, wildcat, marten, fox, numerous species of bats among which special interest is aroused by a brown long-eared bat.
